JOYCE ROSE

Work Description: Acrylic

Biography: My love of nature began as a child trying to keep up with my father’s long legs, striding through the corn fields of Iowa, hunting for pheasants and rabbits. My dad was constantly teaching me about cloud formations, trees, plants, and wildlife. Then I’d try to recreate what I had seen with my crayons or water paints…pictures my mother would hang on our refrigerator.

Now, years later, I’m a painter with no formal art training, using acrylics to again recreate my own scenic photographs, thoughts and dreams. As a transplant from West Virginia, I have lived in Berlin for 13 years…totally loving the small town life with my family, and the beauty of Maryland.

My work is a mixture of styles and techniques, sometimes verging on enchantment or fantasy, and sometimes realism. I rarely sketch my paintings first…I just start painting, not always knowing ahead of time which direction it will take. And…sometimes if an idea comes to me in the night, I’ll get up immediately and start painting so I don’t lose my train of thought.

Someone once told me that my paintings feel organic and earthy…I like that assessment, as nature is my constant inspiration. I hope you enjoy my work…as I love doing it for you.
