Resume - Jessie Martin

Work Description:
Pottery

Biography:
Jessie has been a resident of Berlin, MD for 10 years. She has a degree in Engineering from Lehigh University and worked as a Designer and Software Engineer before becoming a stay-at-home mother and potter. Jessie has always had a need to work creatively with her hands. Her work is primarily wheel thrown and altered with hand built additions. Many of her pieces are thrown in multiple parts and assembled.
Jessie has been an avid knitter for many years and accents many of her pieces with fibers such as leather, silk and wool. Her pottery is a mixture of functional and sculptural pieces. Jessie truly enjoys creating everyday objects that you would find sitting on the counter in most kitchens and making them works of art meant for both display and use.
Recently she has become interested in the chemistry, experimentation and precision involved in making crystalline pottery, a process by which the proper combination of chemicals and firing schedule combine to make it possible for crystals to be grown within a glaze.
