Work Description: I consider myself a representational impressionist, although I find that labels are relatively meaningless because I paint in a style that suits me, bringing life to my canvases. Energy is the driving force for me in my paintings.
Biography: I am a self-taught artist and have painted on and off for more than thirty years. Over the years I learned from wonderful teachers in numerous workshops and classes, including instructors David Orlando Bunting, Maggie Price, Julie Hanson, and Richard McKinley.
Now that I am retired from a sales and marketing career, I am devoting serious, full-time efforts to my art. Instead of creating a photographic likeness I try to capture the essence or energy in whatever subject I paint and eliciting a response from the viewer. This is equally true for a painting about an Eastern Shore scene, a cityscape, still life or a portrait of someone’s beloved pet. Capturing the “feeling” is perhaps difficult, yet this is what motivates me and what I continually strive to create. I do it through capturing light and using vivid color.
When traveling I often look for a captivating scene. I also like to capture scenes with people going about their everyday lives. I create my work both from photographs I have collected and from live subjects in plein air (painting outdoors in natural light).
Recent Work: I have exhibited locally, and have won awards at the Ocean City Art League and the Art Institute and Gallery in Salisbury, Maryland.
