Work Description: Mitzi experiments with different styles and designs that develop into beautiful scarves,
pillows, wall hangings, framed art, and cards.
Biography: Mitzi, a resident of Ocean Pines, Maryland has pursued silk painting since retiring as a counselor in 2000 from Prince George’s Community College. She was introduced to silk painting in 2001 by a friend who invited her to a “girl’s weekend” where a silk artist gave an introductory lesson. Thus began a journey of unexpected turnings and friendships.
Mitzi’s first workshop and professional exposure to the art of silk painting was with Diane Tuckman who encouraged her to join Silk Painters International, SPIN. From this connection, Mitzi has continued to improve her skills through workshops taught by accomplished silk painters Jan Janas, Suzanne Punch, Natasha Foucault, Margaret Hartsook, Sissi Siska and Lee Zimmerman.
Mitzi produces wall art, scarves, pillows, and cards. Most recently, two of her large paintings were juried into the International Exhibition of Silk Artists in January 2010. Her scarves were featured in the November/December 2007 issue of Maryland Life Magazine and are sold locally and out-of-state. She was a featured artist at the “Emerging Women Art Show” in 2005 and “The ART of Friendship” in 2006 at the Entler Hotel in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. She has also shown and sold her work at The Balcony Gallery at the Globe in Berlin, MD, Bishop’s Stock Gallery in Snow Hill, MD, The Rehoboth Art League Gallery, Rehoboth, DE, J. Cooper Gallery in Shepherdstown, WV and Aurora Gallery, Annapolis, MD. Mitzi’s art is currently displayed at the Worcester County Arts Council Gallery in Berlin, MD.
Recent Work: Mitzi's silk art has been recently displayed in November/December issue of Maryland's Life Magazine.
