Meet Barbara Hager

Work Description:
Barbara has been painting since the early 1980’s and has received varied awards for her loose watercolors of local scenes which are often embellished with pen and ink.

Biography:
As an artist, I paint my surroundings – I paint what I see and what I feel. Not so much realistically, but the essence, such as the impressionists did when offering their creations to the world; a way of seeing with the heart, mind and soul. Sometimes, in a whimsical way, just to bring a smile and joy to the viewer. Maurice Prendergast – post impressionist – is one of my favorite artists; his style and life experience speak to me.

My first drawing class was sponsored by the Art League of Ocean City held at Kate Bunting’s Mt. Vernon Hotel on Talbot Street. Over the years I continue to take classes and workshops and am inspired by my teachers, daughters, and artist friends.

In the past I have served on the Art League of Ocean City Board – past treasurer for 94 West and the Worcester County Watercolor Society. I am an active member in other organizations as well.

Currently, my work is exhibited in local galleries: Bishop Stock, Art League of Ocean City, Worcester County Arts Council, Rehoboth Art League, and the Art Institute and Gallery.

Art opens the door wide – traveling, painting, sketching – into a world that is exciting, happy, and joyful. Come along and look – see for yourself.
